Paro Taksang Monastery
Majestic tigers nest in Bhutan

In the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava, revered as Guru Rinpoche, arrived at Taktshang cave in the form of Guru Dorje Droloe, riding a tigress. His mission was to subdue eight classes of malevolent spirits, binding them with an oath to protect the dharma. In 1692, Gyalsey Tenzin Rabgye laid the foundation stones for Taktshang Monastery. Inside the temple, there stands a bronze statue of Guru Rinpoche, said to have miraculously spoken in 1951.
