Bhutan Heritage Research and Studies
At the Center for Research Bhutan we are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the holistic tradition and culture of Bhutan by integrating the study of sacred texts, ritual practices, and cultural heritage into a unified field of preservation and research.

Buddhist Texts & Sutras
We specialize in translating sacred Buddhist texts from Tibetan to English and Dzongkha, ensuring accuracy and preserving their spiritual essence. Our expert team delivers culturally sensitive translations for academic, religious, and preservation purposes, making these profound teachings accessible to a global audience. Example, ongoing translation of Thangtong Gyalpo’s biography.

Buddhist Cultural Practices
We engage in encompassing the study of vibrant festivals like Losar, Loche and Saga Dawa, as well as pilgrimages to sacred sites such as Dechenphug, Taktsang, Singye Dzong etc. Â We also examine material culture, from the intricate details of thangka paintings to the spiritual significance of stupas and ritual objects. Furthermore, we prioritize safeguarding oral traditions, ensuring the living wisdom traditions endure.

Ritual Practices (Bonchoe & Local Traditions)
We document intricate ceremonies such as healing and protection rites, along with their symbolic elements—mantras, mudras (or ritual gesture), and torma (or symbolic food) offerings. Our research extends to the rich interplay between Buddhism and indigenous Bon traditions in Himalayan communities, as well as the preservation of ritual music, including the mesmerizing art of throat singing and sacred instrumental practices.
